How Much To Get TOEIC Transcript Online?

The TOEIC concept originated in the mid-1970s when Yasuo Kitaoka, a Japanese former Time magazine executive, identified widespread gaps in English communication abilities among Japan’s workforce amid growing globalization. He collaborated with ETS to create a test tailored for corporate needs. The first TOEIC exam launched in 1979 in Japan, administered to about 3,000 test-takers. Initially managed by World Economic Information Services, administration shifted in 1986 to the Institute for International Business Communication (IIBC) in Japan, which continues to oversee it regionally while ETS handles global development.

The core TOEIC Listening and Reading Test—the most popular format—evaluates receptive skills through 200 multiple-choice questions across two sections: Listening (45 minutes, 100 questions) and Reading (75 minutes, 100 questions), totaling about 2 hours. Scores range from 10 to 990 (5–495 per section), aligned with the CEFR framework (A1–C1 levels). Content draws from real-world business scenarios, such as meetings, emails, announcements, articles, and conversations.

In 2006, ETS introduced the TOEIC Speaking and Writing Tests to assess productive skills, with Speaking scored 0–200 and Writing 0–200 (total 0–400). These complement the main test, providing a comprehensive four-skill evaluation. Today, millions take the TOEIC annually in over 160 countries, accepted by thousands of corporations, universities, and governments for hiring, promotions, training, and admissions. Its business-oriented focus, reliability, and validity make it a benchmark for workplace English proficiency, helping non-native speakers demonstrate readiness for international roles.
