Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, commonly known as KNUST or Tech, is a leading public research university in Kumasi, the capital of Ghana’s Ashanti Region. Construction began in 1949 on what became the Kumasi College of Technology, which opened officially in January 1952 with an initial cohort of about 200 teacher-training students transferred from Achimota College. After a 1966 name change to University of Science and Technology, it reverted to KNUST via Act 559 in 1998.
