KNUST Diploma

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, commonly known as KNUST or Tech, is a leading public research university in Kumasi, the capital of Ghana’s Ashanti Region. KNUST Diploma Sample, As Ghana’s second public university and the largest in the Ashanti Region, it specializes in science, technology, engineering, and related fields, while also offering programs in humanities, business, health sciences, and more.

KNUST’s origins trace back to the late 1940s, inspired by Asantehene Agyeman Prempeh II’s vision for a modern institution in Kumasi, influenced by post-World War II developments like the 1948 Accra riots and the Watson Commission report recommending a science-focused college. Construction began in 1949 on what became the Kumasi College of Technology, which opened officially in January 1952 with an initial cohort of about 200 teacher-training students transferred from Achimota College. Early programs included engineering, commerce, pharmacy, and agriculture, initially affiliated with the University of London.

On August 22, 1961, an Act of Parliament transformed it into a full university, naming it Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to honor Ghana’s first Prime Minister and President, Kwame Nkrumah, whose leadership drove post-independence educational expansion. After a 1966 name change to University of Science and Technology, it reverted to KNUST via Act 559 in 1998.

Today, KNUST operates a collegiate system with six main colleges—Agriculture and Natural Resources, Architecture and Planning, Art and Social Sciences, Engineering, Health Sciences, and Science—plus the School of Graduate Studies, Institute of Distance Learning, and other units. It offers a wide array of undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma programs, emphasizing innovation, research, and practical training.

The university enrolls over 85,000 students (with recent admissions around 50,000+ new students annually, including significant postgraduate intake), drawing from Ghana and internationally. It boasts a large campus with modern facilities, strong research output, and a vibrant community focused on advancing Africa’s development through science and technology. Led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, KNUST remains a cornerstone of higher education, producing skilled professionals for global challenges.
